Client Side Developer

Guardian News & Media is expanding its digital offering – and you can help shape it.
The Guardian is looking for creative front-end developers to join a highly talented technology team to develop our award winning website and online brand. You will work on a range of exciting new projects, including our core website delivering to 36+ million unique users every month. You will be expected to participate and lead front-end projects, bring fresh ideas on interaction design, navigation and user experience on new and existing devices and platforms as well as support and maintain the existing Guardian website. You will be able to advance and develop ways to enrich the Guardian's content on the web and social sphere using front-end technologies.
You will have a good understanding of The Guardian and the role of online news and social media. You will thrive in a creative environment and enjoy the challenge of coming up with technical solutions for cutting-edge designs and interactives.
In a cross disciplinary team including developers and designers, you will be comfortable with working with every layer of the web's hierarchy of technologies. You will be able to produce standards compliant HTML, CSS, and Javascript solutions and have evidence of using back-end languages that power them. You should be able to demonstrate expert knowledge of web standards, browser compatibility and accessibility issues, and a passion for finding a route through them. You will take pride in your ability to produce a single standards-based solution that works across all modern clients, and degrades cleanly in legacy clients.
You will have helped design and deliver a portfolio of web products and services both professionally and personally. You will have a strong voice on the web, and demonstrate engagement with the online community.
